Question of the Week: Why Is It Important to Worship Together?
I like to think of myself as a lone wolf when it comes to worshipping God. Large group worship can honestly creep me out sometimes and with the amount of showiness often times involved in corporate worship, it can be distasteful. I would rather go into the woods by myself with a bible and worship alone. This is partly due to my introverted tendencies, but I think it also comes back to the influence of culture on my own mindset. In America, the question is why do something in a group that can easily be accomplished by yourself? Our culture promotes the individual over the community in every way. So this belief combined with my temperament has made it very difficult to get behind the necessity of corporate worship over the last few years. The question I always had is why we need to worship together at all. Why do we need corporate worship? I know it's biblical and historical, but why? I seem to connect better with God when I'm alone than when I'm in a large group. I find corporate worship off-putting at times (and I'm a worship pastor) so a part of me wants to forego it all together.God has broken my heart over this sentiment over the last few years. I now feel confident in my belief that corporate worship is important, but before writing about it and sharing it with you, I wanted to just ask you your thoughts. Why is it important to worship together?
