Two weeks ago I posted a new song called "God of All Salvation," (you can stream and download it here) along with an explanation about a new way for worship songs to be interactive. Worship music is not something we should consume, it is something that should invoke interaction between the church and God. In an effort to do this, I am releasing the songs as free downloads along with a free study guide to help contextualize the song in a way that evokes participation.Without further ado, here is the new song "Lose My Life" along with the study guide.Lose My LifeBiblical Theme:In order to gain eternal life in Christ, we must lose our own. Denying ourselves for the sake of following Christ is one of the hardest but most necessary things to do as Christians. Jesus doesn't mince words with regards to the cost of discipleship. He wants everything! Because the price is so high, we need to constantly cry out to God for the mercy and strength to follow him completely.Verses to Consider:“And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:38–39 ESV)“And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them. Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, since they had no depth of soil, but when the sun rose they were scorched. And since they had no root, they withered away. Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Other seeds fell on good soil and produced grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear.”” (Matthew 13:3–9 ESV)“Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”” (Mark 1:14–15 ESV)Study Questions:What good things in your life are keeping your devotion from Christ? How do you go about "giving up your life" for Christ? Why does Jesus desire this kind of devotion? What is the true cost of discipleship?___________________________________________________________________________________________You can download the song and study guide here.
